Advent Calendar 2014, Day 1 - Should you buy it?

The first window of the EU Wargaming advent calendar was revealed! It is a special offer for 99.99 EUR which includes:

  • 1 Soviet tier III light tank BT-SV
  • 1 garage slot in World of Tanks
  • 27500 gold
  • 30 days of premium account

At the moment hobbygames.ru is selling a gift box which includes the BT-SV light tank (with 100% trained crew), 10000 gold, 1 garage slot and 90 days of premium account. The gift box also contains merchandise items, such as a sticker for the car, a huge desk mat, the book "Leningrad KV-1 - Design and Production", a mug with a picture of the legendary SU-100, a cup-stand in the shape of an artillery sight and a two-sided poster with a picture of the T-34 tank.

The gift box purchase price is 2990 RUB (45.9 EUR).

It is a better price than 99.99 EUR, but only if you have an account in the RU servers. The in-game content included in the gift box can only be activated in the RU servers. Unless you are prepared to contact EU customer support and ask them to activate the RU bonus code, your best option to acquire this rare premium vehicle is the current EU offer.

Now let's look at the advent calendar offer by converting each items value to gold. The BT-SV worth 1000 gold, the garage slot worth 300 gold and the 30 days of premium account worth 2500 gold. Plus the 27500 gold included in the offer. The total value of the offer is 31300 gold.

With 99.99 EUR you can buy 30500 gold in the EU gift shop. That means the advent calendar offer has an added value of 1300 gold for the same price of a 30500 gold package. The 1300 gold is equivalent to 520000 credits, which will eventually be needed to equip the BT-SV for combat. A fully geared up BT-SV could include:

  • Train 100% the 4 crew, 800 gold.
  • Equip the three essential consumables (Small Repair Kit, Small First Aid Kit and Manual Fire Extinguishers), 9000 credits.
  • Purchase equipment to enhance the vehicle capabilities (Camouflage Net, Binocular Telescope, Improved Ventilation Class 1), 650000 credits.
  • Acquire 3 different camouflage for 30 days, 90000 credits.
  • Load 30 AP, 30 APCR and 15 HE ammunition, 24630 credits.

All that incurs a total cost of 2734 gold or 1093630 credits.

The advertised "bonus" incurs necessary costs to use the premium vehicle, reducing the added value of the special offer. In the case scenario above the incurred costs are higher than the added value, making the offer a good deal only for Wargaming - which is offering you less gold and incurred expenses for the same price you would pay for more gold and no incurred expenses).

The BT-SV generates average net income of 8348 credits per battle (source: vbaddict.net). The premium account would provide an additional bonus of 4174 credits per battle. Thus the player would need to play approximately 88 battles to pay off the incurred cost of the above case scenario.

Should you buy it?

Yes! You should only buy it if you really like to collect rare premium vehicles. This is the best offer at the moment for EU players to acquire the light tank BT-SV. Once the sales finish you will have to pay a higher price in Ebay for an EU bonus code or import a gift box from Russia (and ask the EU customer service to activate the RU bonus code).

No! You should not buy if what you are looking for is a bargain! If you have no preference for rare premium vehicles, then this offer is not for you. You can obtain other tier III premium vehicles for a lower price. EU Wargaming is basically tying the sale of their most expensive gold package with the opportunity to players acquire a rare premium vehicle.
